Inivation to join the making the future of Lithuanian cities
INTRODUCTION
Following the successful and inspiring experience of the contest
of concept creating of future Lithuanian cities, “Smart City I”,
“Smart City II,” “Smart City III”, “Smart City IV”, we continue the
good practice and, through the needs of Lithuanian municipalities and the young professionals of infrastructure-development,
“Structum,” the magazine for achitecture and construction infrastructure, and business specialists, is holding the fifth“Smart City
V,” the concept-making contest that is under the auspices of the
Ministries of Environment, Culture, Education and Science, and
Transport and Communications.
THE MAIN IDEA
By way of contest, to provide higher education institutions’ students of architecture, construction, engineering and other programs in higher education
institution an opportunity to present ideas according to the Lithuanian municipality territory development and attractiveness program.

The aim of the project is to create attractive urban concepts with the help of
teams of architects, engineers and construction professionals in Lithuanian
higher education institutions. Groups of students prepare project proposals
that meet the needs of city development and attractiveness presented by
municipalities of regions and cities participating in the project and feasibility
studies, integrating the products and services of the project partners.
The most interesting aspect of the competition is the likelihood that the best
and most knowledgeable student projects for the application of the territories for modern life will be implemented in reality.
THE MAIN IDEA
Aim of the contest – to create concepts for cities and towns that would make
them appealing to live in, with the help of teams of professionals of higher
education institutions’ students of architecture, engineering and construction.
Participants of the contest include student groups from universities, supervised by specialists of the field, student groups that create concepts which
are according to the needs of the provided development and attractiveness
for districts.
PROJECT TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Higher education institutions: Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Kaunas University of Technology, Vilnius Academy of Arts,
Vilnius Technologies and Design College, and University of Klaipėda.
PROJECT TASK
Students led by teachers and a team leader form groups of 1-7
people. The formed groups choose one of the target territories
submitted by the municipalities and prepare the project proposals for them. Proposals in the long run should generate revenue,
contribute to improving the economic environment, increasing
employment, and solving social problems. In the area under consideration, a parcel of land or part of territory is selected, for
which a detailed project proposal is developed reflecting the city’s
needs, financial possibilities, realistic solutions for communication
and engineering infrastructure.
During the project implementation, the partners engaged by
STRUCTUM will take part in the process. Partners will prepare for
the students presentations of innovative and anticipated-to-apply
work tools and products, inform about the possible use of modern technologies, innovative delivery and analytical methods. In
order to uncover the specifics of “Smart City”, focus is put on the
goods and services currently on the market, which are related to
the principles of sustainable development and smart city (saving
of resources, automatic data collection, processing, transmission,
automatic control systems, etc.).
Students must use at least one product, service or toolkit offered
by each partner in their project when making offers (taking into
account the specifics of the selected target area and the proposed project).

Promotion of your company in exclusive positions during the entire
implementation period of “Smart City” (September 2018 to July
2019).

portal Structum.lt.
- Readers of “Structum” – layouts and newsletters on the progress
of the project.
Other media reports related to the progress of “Smart City”.
- Visitors of PC Panorama, PR Europa, Seimas Exhibitions Hall, visitors of public spaces of Vilnius City Municipality and other public
places – project works of “Smart City” will be presented at the exhibitions in the above-mentioned places.
- User of social media (“Facebook”, “LinkedIn”, “Instagram”) – photos
and event moments are hosted on “Instagram” and “Facebook”
pages.
